Affordable housing and sophisticated architecture can go hand in hand. This is proven by the design for a parking garage, which Koschany + Zimmer Architects KZA have developed for a modularly planned multi-family house of Vonovia in Landsberg am Lech. The city council has already approved the plans.
A parking garage has existed in the residential area for a long time. But the unadorned concrete construction has been considered unattractive by residents and administrators. With the re-densification of the neighborhood, which KZA planned on behalf of Vonovia, a new solution was to be found.
Slat facade
The design plans to extend the existing car park by two storeys while fundamentally reworking the look. Above all, the slat facade makes the construction special. Soundproofing aspects are just as important as specifications from fire protection. Open slats alternate with closed structures.
Koschany + Zimmer Architects KZA are also continuing the development of modularly planned residential buildings for Germany’s largest housing company elsewhere. For example, Vonovia recently celebrated the topping out ceremony in Bayreuth for another new building designed by the Essen architects.
A new home for families and senior citizens
The 20 apartments are 40 to 140 square meters in size and should give families just as much a home as seniors. In addition, parking spaces for cars and bicycles are created on the property.
The general contractor of the project in Bayreuth is the Max Bögl Group, which is constructing the building with reinforced concrete modules. The first tenants are expected to move into their apartments in March 2018.
