The development of Shamrockpark in Herne, on the former RAG site, is taking shape. On Wednesday, KZA’s CEO Axel Koschany presented first thoughts on the future use of spaces at a press conference.

The Fakt AG based in Essen, owner of the site, has commissioned the KZA office to develop a master plan for the park.

„This is an incredibly exciting task for our team,“ emphasized Axel Koschany. For years, the area has been closed to the public. The architects now plan to open the grounds. „It should not become a city within the city, but a part of the city of Herne and the whole region.“

As Koschany explained, it was important to preserve the green character of the site. New buildings were to be constructed in the courtyards of the existing ones. Before that, however, it was important to find answers to open questions – for example with regard to traffic management.

Fakt AG has gained the Hungarian construction company Kész as a partner for the implementation of first projects. A cooperation agreement was signed at the press conference. One of the plans is to open a European guest house in one of the former office buildings.

In addition, plans for further use within the park are underway, emphasized the CEO of Fakt AG, Hubert Schulte-Kemper. Among other things, a day care center and a senior center are being discussed.
