Success for KZA: The administrative board of the city of Dortmund has voted for the design of a building set, which the Essen architects developed for the site Königswall 44/46. The Spar- und Bauverein (savings and building association) wants to build the complex with apartments and offices at the former location of a study institute. The city council still has to give its consent.

The plan presented by KZA provides for a group of three buildings of different heights, connected by a base. From every point of view the perception of the buildings changes. The design represents „a very good bond to the adjoining building, so that the urban situation meets with a sustainable use and sophisticated architecture,“ says a press release from the city of Dortmund. The management board considered the overall concept as „very convincing“.

Special site

A total of 17 interested parties submitted an offer in the course of an interest-finding procedure for the allocation of land. They also had to present their plans for future use. With its proximity to the city center, to the German Football Museum and the Dortmund U, the site is particularly „publicly effective“ and „urban-shaping“.
