Architecture meets industry

Winner of the competition for serial construction

Individuality in series

Winner of the competition for serial construction

A flexible modular construction kit to create more high-quality living space within shorter periods of time: Using this concept, Koschany + Zimmer architects KZA and the module manufacturer ALHO from Friesenhagen, Germany, have been selected as winners of the Europe-wide call for tender concerning serial construction.

Awarding authorities were the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community and the General Association of the German housing industry (GdW) in cooperation with the Federal Association of German architects (BDA) and the construction industry. The common system design of KZA and ALHO will now be integrated into a framework agreement for the construction of residential buildings in serial and modular design.

Housing companies that belong to the GdW and its member associations can use the concepts from now on to create living space that is needed urgently all over Germany. The first projects will probably be implemented in 2019.

The concept

Implementing construction projects within minimal time

I am convinced that a new chapter of serial and modular construction methods has been started. Today the foundation is laid to give a boost to serial and modular construction in Germany.

Undersecretary in the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community

Maximum versatility

Under the guiding principle „Individuality in series“ the KZA team and ALHO have developed a modular construction system with maximum versatility and flexibility and, at the same time, used all the economic advantages of serial design. In accordance with the individual property, different building types and apartment sizes can be configured. They comply with the federal funding guidelines to a great extent. In addition to that, all flats have been planned to be barrier-free. Axel Koschany was present at the end of May when the concept was accepted officially within the Europe-wide call for tender released by the General Association of the German housing industry (GdW).

One system – countless possibilities

Diversified design

Unlike common assumptions might suggest, the modular system can be used to create different buildings with a high architectural standard. This is because the modules can be configurated in new ways again and again and façades can be designed differently. The advantage of an extremely short construction period remains in any case.

Planning with experience in modular construction

KZA implements projects all over Germany

Apart from the adaptability of the concept, housing companies also benefit from KZA team’s experience in modular and serial construction. The architectural office has been dealing with the topic for more than three years and implements projects all over Germany for one of the biggest European housing companies.

We are proud and happy to provide our concept for all members of the General Association of the German housing industry.
