In 2017, KZA took first place in an architectural competition for the development of the Bremen district Am Sacksdamm. The design is based on the Essen architects’ modular design concept. It provides for approximately 80 residential units on a plot in the Hemelingen district of Bremen.
“Houses in the green, between the old trees, oriented around a common centre as meeting place”: This is how Axel Koschany describes the basic idea for the residential buildings. Families, singles and older people alike are meant to find a home there. 25 percent of the housing is publicly funded.
Vonovia and the city of Bremen had invited a total of four architectural offices to the competition. In January 2017, a jury evaluated the drafts submitted anonymously. The experts voted unanimously for the design submitted by KZA.
